Membership
(1) Eligibility
Any person 18 years or older who identifies with or supports the South Sudanese community in Houston and agrees to SSCO’s principles is welcome to join our mission of progress.
(2) Membership Benefits
- Participation in community meetings and decision-making actions.
- Direct access to educational, cultural, and dedicated family programs.
- Belonging to a network of families contributing to Houston’s development.
(3) Registration
Joining SSCO involves completing our membership record, fulfilling the registration and annual dues, and joining our registry to receive official confirmation of your role in the community.
Governance
Community Framework
SSCO operates under a community-structured constitution and bylaws, collaboratively developed to reflect principles of accountability, transparency, and inclusion.
Leadership Structure
Executive Office – Elected officials representing South Sudanese regions and families in Houston.
Board of Directors (Oversight Committee) – Provides guidance, planning, and oversight.
Board of Elders – Ensures cultural and ethical integrity.
Sub Committees & Offices – Coordinate community activities and outreach.
Legal Status
SSCO is currently in the process of formal registration with the State of Texas and preparing documentation toward nonprofit recognition, aligning with state and federal requirements.
